Trees in the ground
February 4th, 2018. Barren land. No crops, no structures, no plan, just a piece of earth and the quiet belief that something could come of it.
That changed the day the bore-well went in. Water met soil for the first time, and with it came possibility. Not a guarantee, just an opening.
Since then, every single weekend, I have made the 140 km round trip from the city to this land. For over seven years, without exception. No hired labor. No outsourcing. No shortcuts. Just the discipline of showing up, week after week, and doing the work myself.
Balancing a corporate job with the physical demands of farming is a constant lesson in resilience.
Every weekend means 140 kilometres of travel, and then the real work begins - managing weeds by hand, ploughing the soil, watering the plants, fixing irrigation laterals, and getting each new sapling into the ground at the right time, in the right place. No machines doing the thinking. No hired hands taking over. Just learning, doing, and figuring it out.
Every post was dug by hand. Every seed was planted by one person. Every lateral that broke got fixed before the drive back to the city.
